From January 2015 we are in partnership with Association of Local Democracy Agencies (ALDA) in a project entitled LADDER.

Funded by EuropeAid, LADDER has 1 global objective and 4 specific ones. For the next 36 months, it will seek to enhance and increase the action of Local Authorities in EU DEAR policies, with special reference to the EU Neighboring area. To do so, the following specific objectives have been identified:

  1. strengthen the capacity of associations of local authorities (LAs) and civil society organizations (CSOs) to act in a sustainable way as drivers for development, fostering their role of multipliers within their countries, communities and network
  2. inform, raise awareness and engage citizens in global issues, global interdependency and development education
  3. develop & reinforce the cooperation between LAs and CSOs, to lead to winning synergies
  4. improve DEAR methods in non-formal education system, through the development of new and innovative methods and tools addressed to a wide range of stakeholders (including educators, civil servants, NGOs, youth leaders etc).

Invitation to the conference
'Bridging the European Year 2013 and the European Year 2015: from participation to development'
 5 June, Strasbourg

The Association of Local Democracy Agencies (ALDA) is honored to invite you to the final event of the project Working Together for Development, which will take place on 5 June at the Council of Europe, in Strasbourg. This event collects and analyses most of the debate that has been going on these years over the possibility to link closely citizens' participation at the local level and the concept of development. Considering the start of the new European programmes on the matter, a road map over the implementation will be identified.

The international conference 'Bridging the European Year 2013 and the European Year 2015:  from participation to development' will bring together the most important actors in the enlarged Europe scene on the topics, putting a spotlight on the relations between these two priorities for all of us Europeans.

The event is supported by the Council of Europe and by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the CoE. After the keynote presentation on development, the morning session will conclude with the presentations by the project partners. During the lunch break, the 10 years from the 'big bang' enlargement of the European Union will be celebrated. The afternoon session will be dedicated to local governance in Ukraine.

During the conference, a major publication about citizens' participation at the local level will also be presented. Written by ALDA together with our members and partners, it will be published by Peter Lang – International Academic Publishers.

See the agenda of the conference, and register before 25 May by emailing Nicolas Gamouras: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
