Structure of CEE Citizen Network

I. Leadership of the Network

1. Coordinating Team

A 4-member Coordinating Team provides a decision making structure of the network. The Coordinating Team meets twice a year to carry out this role and utilizes e-mail communication to conduct more regular business. Bosnia - Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Poland and Slovakia NGO representatives agreed to serve as the initial members of this Team.

Here is a photo of the Coordinating team in Krakow in 2002:

2. Representative Team

The Representative Team consists of one delegate from each country. This group meets once a year and have the opportunity to share experiences and suggest ideas for the future development of the network. If there are more than two member organisations from one country, they can have two representatives in the Representative team of CEE CN.

3. Coordinator of the Network

The Coordinator of the CEE CN is Anna Karailieva from Center for Community Organizing, located in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia. You can get in touch with her (or some of the members of the Coordinating or the Representative Teams) to learn more about the CEE Citizen Network or join the CEE CN (contact details are on the JOIN! page).

II. Selection Process

The Coordinating Team decided that there could be more than one member from one country, but there would only be one organization which is responsible for contacting and coordinating matters with the other organizations in their country. The representative organization would then serve as a member of the Representative Team of CEE C.N. Normally, the first organization from a country would serve in this role and in future years, then they can determine their own process of selecting a representative. But countries are free to choose another option as well.

New members would be voted on by the Coordinating Team at their twice a year meetings. CEE CN is currently working on elaborating the criteria for selecting members. The Coordinating Team agreed that for now, developing some criteria is not of vital importance. The important thing is to create an opportunity for organizations to have the opportunity for sharing information, publications, visiting each other and participating in international conferences.

You can find more information on the meetings of the Representative Team and the Coordinating Team of CEE Citizen Network in the History Section

III. CEE CN as a registered organization

The CEE Citizens Network has been registered in January 2005. This marks a significant event in the life of our young efforts. It symbolizes several things. The first is that we have grown up and are ready to step out on our own. The second aspect is that we intend to be around and increase our capacity as we continue to carry out this important work of increasing citizen participation throughout the region.
